The list has 12 names on it. I immediately crossed out the ones who don't have websites. Do they think I'm actually going to call people and talk to them? Euuh! I will seriously avoid making an actual phone call and having to talk to someone for as long as I possibly can.
That brought me down to nine.
I noticed that two of the names on the list are for rabbis. I probably can't count on them for a Christian-lite wedding ceremony so I crossed them out too.
I'm down to seven.
So I went to the DIS boards and started reading about other Disney brides' experiences with the various officiants. I made some notes and then I wanted to start looking at those websites.
One was non-existent. I got sent to a weird holder site that looked really sketchy. Crossed off another one.
Eeny Meeny Miny Mo is not appropriate in this situation! |
One of the frontrunners had a great reputation and lots of brides loved him but he had a website that looked like it hadn't been updated since 1995, including a mauve, textured background; white Times New Roman print and about a hundred misspellings. Plus when I looked at his picture, he kinda looked like Joe Paterno and that freaked me out on a whole bunch of different levels. So I wasn't so keen on using him anymore.
The other guy from the Disney list that I was okay with was used by a popular Disney wedding blogger and she had an iffy experience. When I contacted her to ask about it she made a point to say that while it wasn't a great experience for her, most of the other brides she knew who used him were very happy with the results. His website was okay. It looked like a pretty straightforward template type deal. He pretty much fit the image of what you'd expect a minister to look like. Still, going through his FAQ and other info something just seemed off to me and I have to go with my gut here.
This was getting to be more complicated than I'd anticipated. I was thinking that I'd close my eyes, make a circle in the air with my pointer finger and pick one. Nope.
I played the game where you click on links from links and an hour later, somehow I ended up on the website for Sensational Ceremonies. A really nice website for wedding officiants in Florida (and a satellite branch in Tennessee? Weird!). The site looks professional and current. I couldn't find any blatant misspellings or grammatical errors in the text. There was a lot of real information and pictures.
I googled the owner's name and found that he gets rave reviews all over the web. So I requested information and we're playing phone tag. If all goes well, we'll be married by Rev. Glynn Ferguson!
Congrats! Also check out You Tube for video footage of these guys in action. A website could be all current and flashy, but if he sounds like Ben Stein in "Ferris Bueller" (Bueller? Bueller?...) it's going to be a loooooong ceremony to get through! lol
ReplyDeleteHow did I not think of that??!?!??!?
ReplyDeletelol
ReplyDeleteWell that's why it's nice to have already-married's checking in on your planning. ;)
Plus, your comments about the sites reminded me of our journey. Our officiant had a ho-hum site, BUT was actually really awesome and kind whereas the flashy site officiants seemed a little arrogant and not "us". So definitely check out footage before you bother calling anyone to see if you "click". Good luck! :)
